The
A4988 is a comprehensive micro stepping motor driver with an integrated
translator for simple operation. This product operates bipolar stepper motors
with output drive capacities of up to 35 V and 2 A and is available in full,
half, 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16 step modes. The A4988 has a fixed off-time current
regulator that may be set to slow, mixed or exponential decay. The A4988
converter is essential for a simple implementation. As long as the
"step" input sends one pulse, the motor will move one micro-step.
There are no phase sequence tables to programme, nor are there any
high-frequency control lines or sophisticated interfaces. When a complicated
microprocessor is unavailable or overworked, the A4988 interface is ideal. The
A4988 chopping control inside automatically picks the current decay mode during
micro-step operation (slow or mixed). The device is initially set to a fixed
downtime in some quick decay, then the rest of the slow decay downtime is in
mixed decay mode. Reduced audible motor noise, increased step accuracy, and
lower power consumption are all benefits of the mixed decay current management
method. Internal synchronous rectification control circuitry is included to
reduce the power consumption of the pulse-width modulation (PWM) operation.
Thermal shutdown with hysteresis, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), and
crossover-current protection are all included in the internal circuit
protection. power sequencing that is unique. The A4988 surface mount QFN
package (ES) has an exposed pad for improved thermal dissipation and a nominal
total package height of 0.90 mm.This packaging is made of Pb (suffix-T) and has
a matte tin lead-frame coating.
